Devolver Digital is going to publish a game on the same day as Grand Theft Auto 6. While many big gaming companies try to avoid Rockstar's big hit, Devolver Digital intends to take on the task. This may work well for them.
The world gets busy on the ground with news of the Great Grand Theft Auto 6 that is now coming out in May 2026. People are now more than excited because of that wait, as this newest segment of the famous open-world series is something that was much awaited earlier.
After Rockstar held them long, Devolver Digital announced on Twitter about another game of theirs scheduled to be released on May 26, 2026. They had planned to but did not state which title would be going head-to-head with GTA 6. The anticipation will be in seeing which game will release on this same big day.
Usually, game makers do their best not to launch games on the same day that another big title is released. Many of them have fears of being overshadowed by the likes of Grand Theft Auto 6, with some opting to push their product back to a later date. They must now contend with the new date issue put forth by Rockstar for 2026. This is, of course, something that has always been spoken about. Even back in 2008, they were debating how the launch of GTA 4 would affect the sales of the soon-to-open Iron Man movie.
Unlike others, though, Devolver Digital is not losing sleep over competition. They operate in their own way, whether it is a game such as Gris or one like Ape Out. Given Devolver's hits in recent times, one might say this bold move will pay off for them.
Two things releasing together most often somehow feed into that hype machine. The year alone, 2023, showed this in the movies with Barbie and Oppenheimer. The same holds true in games: The Elder Scrolls 4 Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 recently played into the Barbenheimer trend. Back in 2020, artworks flooded the internet, showcasing an accompanying release day of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal.
