Why You Should Wait: Apple Set to Reveal New iPhones and More on September 9

If you're planning to purchase a new iPhone, now isn't the best moment to do so. Unless you urgently need a replacement, it's smart to wait a few more days. Apple is scheduled to unveil its latest iPhones on Monday, meaning you'll soon have the option to either choose a brand-new model or get a discount on the iPhone 15. The event will happen on September 9 at 1 PM ET (10 AM PT) at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino's Apple Park. You can catch the live stream on YouTube or via Apple's official website.

This year, Apple is expected to introduce four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. While these devices may not bring dramatic upgrades from the iPhone 15 — which was called the "most meaningful update to the regular iPhone in years" by editor Billy Steele — the focus will likely be on iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence. On the hardware side, you can expect a faster processor, slight adjustments to screen sizes, and potentially a dedicated camera button for Pro versions.

In addition to iPhones, new Apple Watch models are also expected, including the Series 10 or "X" and the Ultra 3. There's also the possibility of new AirPods, with updates for both entry-level and Pro models. Even if you're not looking to buy new Apple hardware, iOS 18 will still be available later this month for many devices, provided yours is eligible. The update promises new features like Apple Intelligence and greater customization options for the home screen.

Engadget's Cherlynn Low and Billy Steele will be at Cupertino to cover the event, bringing live updates and insights on September 9.
