According to reports, Liverpool is prepared to make an early sale to Real Madrid more difficult after being "furious" with Trent Alexander-Arnold's choice to go and sign a free transfer with the Spanish team.
Alexander-Arnold has previously said that he will leave Liverpool on June 30 when his contract ends, but Madrid is now considering moving forward his arrival date to coincide with the opening of the Club World Cup two weeks earlier.
To do this, Madrid and Liverpool would need to agree to let him out of his contract early; a little price would probably be enough, but according to the report, the Reds are not willing to be kind.
Liverpool is reportedly "very angry" about losing their best right-back for nothing, and despite not playing in the Club World Cup, they are hesitant to assist Madrid in winning by agreeing to trade Alexander-Arnold early.
The leaders of Anfield have stated that they want payment in order to release Alexander-Arnold. If Madrid wants to close a deal quickly, they will still need to satisfy Liverpool's criteria even as they prepare an offer.
Although Alexander-Arnold is rumored to desire to play in the Club World Cup this summer, it's unknown how much Liverpool will ask to fulfill his goal. Madrid is seeking to make a trade for about €1 million (£850,000).
Prior to the Club World Cup, clubs will have ten days to strengthen their rosters during the new summer transfer window, which opens on June 1. Transfer windows will temporarily shutter from June 10 to June 16 in order to guarantee that they conclude at the regular period, as FIFA regulations prohibit them from remaining open for more than 12 weeks.
