The United Football League (UFL) and the United Football Players Association (UFPA) have solidified a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), ending months of negotiations and ensuring labor stability through the 2026 season. Approved by the league Monday, the deal retroactively covers players from the start of training camp on March 2 and introduces sweeping changes to salaries, healthcare, and workplace conditions.
Key Financial Upgrades in UFL CBA
Under the agreement, minimum salaries for players participating in all 10 regular-season games will rise from $55,000 to $62,005 in 2024, followed by an increase to $64,000 in 2025. The latter adjustment includes a reallocated $400 monthly housing stipend to streamline compensation. These boosts mark the UFL's first major salary revisions since its 2024 launch as a merged entity of the XFL and USFL.
Expanded Health Benefits Take Center Stage
A standout provision guarantees year-round healthcare coverage for all players—a first for spring football leagues. Athletes will now receive seven months of insurance post-season, plus five months of subsidized COBRA benefits. Previously, coverage lasted only four months, aligning with the UFL's condensed schedule.
Roster Growth and Grievance Protocols Added
The CBA also expands team rosters and establishes formal processes for resolving player grievances, addressing long-standing concerns over workplace transparency. UFL President Russ Brandon praised the collaboration, stating, "This agreement reflects our shared commitment to advancing professional spring football and supporting our athletes."
Turbulent Path to Resolution
The deal follows months of tension, including a February boycott threat by 24 quarterbacks over stalled negotiations. Players also alleged coaching staff threatened releases for media-day boycotts. However, persistent talks yielded compromises, with UFPA representatives securing critical wins on wages and healthcare.
With labor peace secured, the UFL aims to stabilize its operations as it competes for fan attention in the crowded sports landscape. The league's 2024 season continues through June, culminating in a championship game in St. Louis.
