Western Digital Readies Solution for Flawed SanDisk SSDs

Western Digital has announced its intention to launch a firmware update aimed at resolving a reliability issue affecting SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro SSDs.

According to Engadget, the problem mostly impacts 4TB, but it also affects 2TB and Extreme Pro V2 portable drivers.

Numerous dissatisfied SanDisk users are expressing their grievances on social platforms. One Reddit user shared their experience of losing all the data they had uploaded on their 4TB drive, a situation that has occurred repeatedly for numerous individuals in recent months.

After months of silence, Western Digital finally addressed the drive issues on Friday by informing Ars Technica that they have completed a software update specifically for 4TB owners of the Extreme and Extreme Pro models. In a statement, the company acknowledged the reports of certain customers encountering problems with the 4TB SanDisk Extreme and/or Extreme Pro portable SSDs.

The company added that they had resolved the issue and had plans to release a firmware update on their website in the near future. They advised customers who had questions or were facing issues to reach out to their Customer Support team for assistance.

Western Digital declined to say when the update would be released or whether the company intended to remedy the issue for 2TB versions, as noted by Engadget. Western Digital didn't react right away when PCMag asked for a comment.
