DC Comics is launching a bold new initiative to streamline its iconic continuity with New History of the DC Universe, a four-issue limited series debuting June 25. Designed as a comprehensive timeline, the project will unify the publisher's 90-year saga into a cohesive narrative, offering clarity for longtime enthusiasts and an accessible entry point for newcomers.
Acclaimed writer Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, Batman/Superman: World's Finest) leads the charge, framing the series through the perspective of Barry Allen (The Flash), whose time-traveling abilities allow for a dynamic exploration of DC's past and present. Waid calls the endeavor a "passion project," teasing unrevealed lore, hidden Easter eggs, and a "definitive roadmap" connecting eras from the Golden Age to today.
The first issue, illustrated by industry legends Jerry Ordway (Crisis on Infinite Earths) and Todd Nauck (Young Justice), delves into the dawn of superheroes, the formation of the Justice Society, and pivotal Golden Age milestones. Nauck praised Waid's vision, revealing, "Every page has something thrilling. I'm uncovering corners of DC's history even I didn't know—and I've been a fan for years!"
The series features an all-star roster of cover artists: Chris Samnee and Dan Mora headline with primary covers, while Ryan Sook, Mike Cho, and Stanley "Artgerm" Lau contribute variant editions. Scott Koblish adds a special wraparound variant, assembling DC's heroes in chronological order across all four issues.
Fans can preorder New History of the DC Universe at local comic shops starting March 21. Bridging decades of storytelling into a single saga, this series promises to be an indispensable guide to the ever-evolving DC mythos.
