Lazarus Rising Games Teams Up with Skybound Entertainment to Add "Invincible," "The Walking Dead" to OverPower Card Game

Lazarus Rising Games (LRG) is catapulting its revival of the cult-classic 1990s card game OverPower into new territory with a landmark licensing partnership. The company announced today a collaboration with Skybound Entertainment, bringing characters from the blockbuster franchises Invincible and The Walking Dead into the OverPower universe starting in 2026. This bold move underscores LRG's mission to transform the nostalgic title into a modern tabletop powerhouse.

Heroes, Villains, and Crossovers Galore

Fans can anticipate fan-favorite Invincible characters such as Omni-Man, Atom Eve, and Battle Beast clashing with The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes, Michonne, and the charismatic antagonist Negan on the game's battlefield. These crossovers follow LRG's earlier deals with Top Cow Productions (Witchblade, The Darkness) and Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. (Tarzan, John Carter of Mars), whose characters will debut in OverPower in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

A Vision for Growth

"Our goal isn't just to revive OverPower—it's to redefine it," said Ronald Pozzi, LRG co-founder and president. "Skybound's iconic IPs align perfectly with our strategy to blend nostalgia with fresh, dynamic content. This partnership is a milestone in our journey to reclaim OverPower's position as a tabletop leader."

Skybound's Garima Sharma, VP of Licensing and Partnerships, echoed the enthusiasm: "LRG's passion for storytelling and gameplay made this collaboration inevitable. Seeing our characters thrust into OverPower's strategic battles will offer fans thrilling new ways to engage with these universes."

Art, Access, and Competitive Ambitions

The revitalized OverPower will feature striking artwork from industry luminaries including Jae Lee (Batman/Superman), Jim Cheung (Avengers), and Phillip Tan (Spider-Man), with products hitting stores in April 2025. Distribution giants ACD and GTS (U.S.) and Universal Distribution (Canada) will handle retail rollout.

LRG is laying the groundwork for a competitive resurgence, spearheaded by an advisory board featuring original OverPower creator Ron Perazza and Paul Bazakas, GTS's VP of Global Sales. A new interactive player portal (OverPower.com) developed with Carde.io offers tools for deck-building, card databases, and Elo-ranked matchups.

Tournaments and Conventions Drive Hype

The company plans to ignite the competitive scene with $100,000+ prize pool tournaments across North America, alongside exclusive merchandise. LRG has already showcased the game at New York Comic Con and WonderCon 2025, with a major presence slated for Origins Game Fair in June 2025.

A Lazarus Moment for Tabletop Gaming

Formerly known as BMG & Associates, Lazarus Rising Games is a passion project led by veteran OverPower devotees. With the collectible card game market thriving, LRG aims to leverage its blend of timeless gameplay, cinematic art, and cross-franchise appeal to captivate both legacy fans and a new generation. As Pozzi declares, "This is just the beginning—OverPower is back, bigger and bolder than ever."
