Alcaraz Sets Sights on French Open Defense After Strong Clay Season

When Carlos Alcaraz prepares to defend his Roland Garros championship, he now has his sights set on the year's second Grand Slam.

This clay season, Alcaraz is playing well; in April and May, he won two Masters 1000 championships on the dirt.

In the Eternal City, where he overcame Jannik Sinner to earn his maiden Italian Open championship, the Spaniard triumphed in the Monte-Carlo Masters last month.

Alcaraz's victory against the Italian made him the seventh-youngest player to win 10 or more clay-court ATP titles during the Open Era.

Alcaraz, who defeated Alexander Zverev in the 2024 final to win the championship, will attempt to become the first person to successfully defend the French Open title in Paris since Rafael Nadal in 2020.

The athlete won't have his 1st training session until Thursday, but Alcaraz and his team are scheduled to go to Paris on Wednesday.

After playing in the final on Sunday, the Rome winner will get three days off.

He will be in the draw, where he will be the second seed, having surpassed Zverev to become the second-ranked player in the world according to the ATP rankings.

Having reached the final last year, Zverev is hoping to protect his points at the Hamburg Open after losing in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.

Alcaraz defeated J.J. Wolf and Jesper De Jong with ease in the 1st and 2nd rounds of their 2024 Roland Garros title fights, respectively.

He then defeated seeded opponents in three straight sets, putting up strong performances against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Sebastian Korda.

He faced world No. 1 Sinner in the semi-final, and he defeated her in a long five-set match.

In a final five-set encounter, Alcaraz triumphed against Zverev to hoist the trophy onto the court, Philippe Chatrier.

The four-time Grand Slam winner is aiming for his 20th career victory and 5th career major in the French city.
