The Binding of Isaac Creator Comments on the Possibility of a Sequel

Edmund McMillen, the creator of The Binding of Isaac, has discussed speculation about another game in the series being created. The original The Binding of Isaac, which was first released more than 13 years ago, is already forgotten, and fans want to see the sequel so much.

The Binding of Isaac's original version is not presented as a main game in the gaming world these days. This came after he managed to improve the game's coding. As a result, McMillen was able to release new content, including expansions such as Afterbirth and Repentance. Of all the years that have gone by, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is considered one of the highest-quality roguelites because of its intuitiveness and utilization of addictive aspects for the gamers who are new to that gaming genre.

In a TikTok response to a fan comment on a possible Binding of Isaac sequel, McMillen was quoted as saying, "I can say with certainty that there will eventually be another Isaac game." In this case, a straightforward response is the best the fans could possibly hope for. Despite the fact that the players have accessed a great deal of new Binding of Isaac content by means of the expansions to Rebirth, the follow-up would give a platform for McMillen to use his creativity. The launch would have to involve major commitments on McMillen's side, given that it has been so long since The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was birthed.

On the heels of news that a new Binding of Isaac will surely be made in the future, McMillen poured cold water on the speculation that it could come out soon by saying, "I don't know when. I would expect not for quite a few years. The chances of an Isaac-like spin-off before a full sequel are a higher probability, probably. Realistically, to do a sequel, we would need to spend many, many years on it." There is a load of roguelike games like The Binding of Isaac out there by now, but those looking for the original game still have to remain patient for a while.

Simultaneously, McMillen still has a lot on his plate, the upcoming roguelike, Mewgenics, being one of his projects, with the artist mentioning in the TikTok that he is planning to release it "at the end of the year." He has promoted Mewgenics as his greatest accomplishment due to the conversation he initiated at the start of the year. It is an intriguing statement, and his repertoire, which includes Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, seems to support it. After Mewgenics is released, however, it will be a long time before even a new Isaac title in any form will make an appearance, for sure.
