Release Date for Nintendo Switch 2 Postponed in One Country

The Nintendo Switch 2 launch in China has been put off. The gaming console was first shown in January. Later, a stream gave details on its price and release date. It will come out worldwide on June 5, and you can pre-order in many places. There's also a special bundle with Mario Kart World.

But the lead-up to the launch has seen some issues. High prices for the console and games bothered many. Nintendo pushed back pre-orders in the U.S. to look at the effects of tariffs from the Trump Administration on manufacturing in Japan and Vietnam. Soon, Canada faced the same delay in pre-orders.

Though pre-orders have been held up, the full launch plans were untouched until now. A report from Nikkei shared that Nintendo delayed the Switch 2 launch in China with no set end date. This is because they want to understand demand in China before using resources.

Experts told Nikkei that the road to success in China is tough. Nintendo has to better what users get while following rules from the Chinese government. This means the console's hardware and software need approval, which can lead to more issues.

This is like the first Switch launch in China. It was delayed until 2019, two years after its worldwide release. Since then, distribution has been through Tencent. But Tencent has not said if this will be the same for the Switch 2. Pre-orders in China were taken before this news but are likely to be stopped. Also, Nintendo will end online services like the Nintendo eShop in China by 2026.
