Meta's Social Networking Applications Recover Following Disruption

Meta Platforms announced the restoration of its social networking applications, Facebook and Instagram, on Friday, following a disruption that impacted thousands of users for over two hours.

At the peak of the outage, Downdetector.com, a website monitoring service disruptions, recorded nearly 20,000 users reporting difficulties with accessing Facebook, Instagram, and Meta's messaging app, WhatsApp. By 6:30 p.m. ET (2230 GMT), the number of outage reports had plummeted to fewer than 500, as per Downdetector.

Downdetector determines outages by aggregating status updates from multiple sources, including issues reported by users on its own platform. Hence, the actual number of affected users could potentially be higher.

Meta also confirmed the resolution of issues with its Ads Manager, a tool that facilitates brands in buying and crafting advertisements for Facebook.
